Victoria Livingstone is an award-winning filmmaker and a senior character animator working in feature films. Her extensive feature credits include Lead Animator on such films as "Star Wars: Episode II" and the academy-award winning, "Happy Feet." Her incomparable and vibrantly colored Acrylic Pen & Ink works are an extension of her visual talent. Working out of her downtown art studio in the Fashion District of LA, she creates her bold large-scale illustrations based on narratives reflecting intellectual ideas or current events. Intense. Sometimes a little disturbing. Definitely unique.

VICTORIA LIVINGSTONE Acrylic Ink & Pen large-scale illustrations

ABOUT THE WORK:Each of the Acrylic Ink & Pen Drawings are created on thick high-grade, non-porous, acid-free paper. The Acrylic Inks used are waterproof and fadeproof when available. The Black Ink is India or industrial grade fade-proof archival Pen.Each of the large pieces are presented in professional quality custom frames created by Castelli Framing in Culver City, CA.
THE PROCESS:Acrylic Ink is pigment color, much like India Ink in consistancy. The more layers of pigment applied, the thicker the opacity of the color. Thus, to create these illustrations with their vibrancy, it takes many many layers of color.....and much patience. The ink is applied with brushes or sponges, and sometimes even fingers, depending on the effect desired.After the Acrylic Ink color is applied, all the line work is then redoubled in Black Ink in an effort to "pop" the piece.The end result looks more like a huge illustration than a painting.

ABOUT WINDOW:

"Window" was Victoria's very first film and was also the film she learned to animate on! It was a moody, clunky stop-motion film with a surprising heart-wrenching quality that reminded many of "Metropolis." Animated at San Francisco State University in 1994 while Victoria was a student, Window went to sit on the shelf for the next five years solely awaiting the addition of sound.

In 2000, after a score was added to the film by Leon Rosen , WINDOW emerged on the festival circut by winning a grand prize at the San Francisco Int'l Film Festival. The film went on to many more festivals, including Slamdance, Palm Springs Int'l Short Fest, BBC Short Fest, and Breckenridge to name a few.

Of note is jazz saxophonist legend, Sonny Simmons , as well as the late bassist, Herbie Lewis , played on the score.

SYNOPSIS:

In a stark black and white world where function and duty to routine are the norm, an unassuming clerk realizes he is dissatisfied. One uncanny evening, the winds of change offer him an opportunity ~ but the decision to leave his old life behind for a new and unknown future turns out to be a decision not so easily made.

Oct. 5, 2010 -- More than 130 alums returned to campus Oct. 2 for the second annual Alumni Day, which featured an Oscar-winning lineup. Keynote speakers included visual effects artist Victoria Livingstone, and academy award winners: sound engineer Chris Boyes and documentarian Steven Okazaki, who hold a total of six Academy Awards among them.
